I Miss You, Dad!

“You never said you are leaving
You never said goodbye
You were gone before I knew it,
And only God knew why…”

Fathers are someone like no other. He gives us life, nurtures us, teaches us, dresses us, fights for us, holds us, but most importantly loves us unconditionally. To be a good father requires that he defers many of his desires and needs for his child, and sometimes these are so unusual that you have nothing else to say except, “I miss you, dad.”

On father’s Day here is a story of the most unusual gift that a father gave to his daughter. I bet, you will have tears by the end of this heart-warming story.

One day an 11-year-old girl asked her daddy. “What are you going to get me for my 15th birthday?”

Father replied, “There is much time left.”When the girl was 14, she fainted and was rushed to the hospital. The doctor came out and told her dad she had a bad heart and she is probably going to die.

When she was lying in the hospital bed, she said,“Daddy, have they told you I am going to die?”

The father replied, “No, you will live” as he left weeping. She said,“how can you be so sure?” He turned around the door and said, “I know.”She turns 15 when she is recovering and comes home to find a little letter on her bed.

It says, “My dearest daughter if you are reading this it means all went well as I told you. One day you asked me what I was giving you for your 15th Birthday, I didn’t know then, but my present to you is my heart.”
Her father had donated his heart. Blessed indeed is the man who hears many gentle voices call him father.

I Miss You, dad. He loved me for who I was and accepted me for who I was striving to become. My dad’s strength gave me a sense of protection and now that he is in Heaven. I know he will continue to protect me like any father would.

On the occasion of Father’s Day, I would love to tell my dad:

Dad, I miss you as much today as I did the day you died. I will always love and miss you. Thanks for being my dad.

Our father makes many silent sacrifices for us to make us happy, without even letting us realize. All of us are so busy growing up that we forget many times that he is growing old too. Try and spend as much quality time with him, treat him with loving care, for you will know their value when you see his empty chair.

To all the caring dads out there Happy Father’s Day! We love you all.

Till then spread some love, love, and more love!

  1. Sad but beautiful story. My dad did so much more for me than i ever gave him credit for. I now see the empty chair. Watched him fade away from the strong man he was, to the man his illness turned him into, right to his last breath. Ove you dad, you’ve taken a piece of me with you. Xx
