They say great things come in all shapes and sizes, and chocolate is certainly among them. Ever since human race developed its first sweet tooth, there has been nothing irresistible than chocolate to raise the spirits, energy and libido.

It not only appeals to our senses, but also has a variety of advantageous ingredients that may do everything from lifting up your mood to helping your heart. Munching a chocolate bar includes sensations that could be even more pleasurable than listening to music, or even falling in love.

By name and by nature, chocolate is worshipped all over. Cocoa bean comes from all over the world, and can be grown easily. The wide varieties of cocoa beans available around the world have lead to some crazy, mouth-watering, delicious creations!

But, did you know that a chocolate river once upon a time existed. Similarly, there are a lot of weird and cool facts you never knew about chocolate.

1. A chocolate river did exist:

Well a chocolate river did exist, back in 1971.

The famous chocolate river Augustus Gloop, running through a chocolate factory, was indeed made of real chocolate, cream and water. Sounds unbelievably delicious, doesn’t it? A chocolate river, But don’t get too excited! The whole mixture got fairly quickly spoiled because of the cream in it.

2. Chocolate Is Actually a Vegetable—Kind Of:

Ladies and gentlemen, this is yet another fact about chocolate you never knew.
It is indeed a vegetable. Chocolate is a product of the cacao bean which grows in pod- like fruits on tropical cacao trees, and Bean = vegetable.

In fact, some even argue that it is a fruit, however in spite of  your stance; it is in fact good for you.

3. White Chocolate Is Not Chocolate:

Yes, something that we’ve all been lied to.

Well, in order to be classified as real chocolate, a product should contain cocoa liquor or cocoa solids; whereas white chocolate contains cocoa butter( a part of cacao bean) instead.

4. Hot Chocolate Was The First Chocolate Treat:

Both in Aztec and Mexican culture, Cacao was brewed. The result was typically a bitter concoction, which was often used for traditional occasions like weddings, a lot different from today’s hot chocolate.

5. Cacao Was Once Used as Currency:

In Mayan times, the cocoa bean was once used as currency. The Maya, one of the oldest civilizations on the American continent, used the cocoa beans as a barter currency to exchange for food or clothes, and even for preparing a bitter drink, known as Xocoatl.

The Cacao was considered to be worth more than gold dust so cultivation of the beans was restricted so the value of cocoa beans as money would not go down.
