The 6 Stages of A Relationship!
- The Romancing Stage- Falling in love and becoming a couple!
It always starts with a strong attraction and an uncontrollable urge to be with each other. This stage is designed to have one fall in love. Falling in love allows one to see the world as a bed full of roses– only making you see what makes you feel good and ignore everything which is bad.
This stage is the perfect time to keep dreaming of one another.
- The Understanding Stage!
During this stage, both of you start getting to know each other better. You have long conversations with your partner and sometimes that stretches late into the night.
Everything about your partner fascinates and interests you. You talk about each other’s families and close ones, exes, likes and dislikes and secrets. Life seems so romantic and wonderful at this stage.
This stage is the perfect time to know each other.
- The Power Struggle Stage!
Just after a few months/years of blissful life, this stage forces its way into “The Understanding Stage”. The Power Struggle stage is a very painful stage for most couples as in this stage the illusion that ‘our romantic love will last forever’ falls away and is replaced with feelings of anger and disappointment.
Instead of seeing your similarities, one starts focusing on differences and partner’s flaws.
Few tips to overcome this stage and move onto the next one:
- Appreciate and accept each other’s differences.
- Learn to share power, and at the same time realize that using force will never get you what you want in love.
- It’s extremely important to realize who you are and what you have as a couple.
This is the perfect stage for creating a proper understanding between the two.
- The Stability Stage!
Once both of you have learned how to fight in such a way where both win, you move to the Stability stage.
A new excitement of being in love returns, and it returns to an even deeper, more mature form, much more than in the Romance stage.
This is the stage where things finally become crystal clear. You tend to give up on the desire to change your partner as you finally realize in this stage that you do not want to do so. You have accepted the fact that the two of you are different and are quite ok with it. In fact, you both have clear boundaries and both of you try to learn mutual respect. Those who don’t, go back to the Power Struggle again.
This is the perfect stage to move on to a settlement.
- The Commitment Stage!
This is the stage where you totally surrender to the reality that you and your partner are human beings and that your relationship has shortcomings as a consequence. Both of you have learned to love each other and you choose each other consciously. In this stage, the relationship cruises along perfectly and the two of you are blissfully happy with each other. Both of you feel like a perfect match, you feel connected to each, trust and love each other intensely.
This is a stage where you begin to experience a beautiful balance of love, fun, belonging, power, and freedom, and the perfect stage of commitment.
- The Co-Creation or Bliss Stage
In this stage, the two people choose to be a team moving out into the world. The two begin to see their love affect not just their life but the lives of everyone around them too.
This stage is the ultimate culmination of several decades spent growing, both individually and together. You move beyond the relationship and your relationship becomes a gift to the world.
Which relationship stage is yours at and how has it affected your love-life?
